Certification Roadmap
A strategic path from Network+ to advanced IT certifications
My certification strategy is designed to build a strong foundation and progressively expand my expertise. Each certification builds on the previous one, creating a clear path toward Network Operations and IT Infrastructure roles.
CompTIA Network+ (N10-009)
The foundation of my networking career. Network+ validates the essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage, and troubleshoot any wired and wireless networks.
Skills Covered
- Network architecture and design
- Network operations and troubleshooting
- Network security fundamentals
- Network protocols and services
Career Relevance
Network+ is often a baseline requirement for NOC Technician and Network Support Technician positions — exactly the roles I'm targeting.
CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701)
Building on Network+, Security+ will add critical cybersecurity skills. As networks are only as strong as their security, this certification will make me more valuable in any network operations role.
Skills Covered
- Security concepts and threats
- Network security architecture
- Identity and access management
- Security operations and incident response
Why This Certification
Many NOC roles now require or prefer Security+ alongside Network+. The combination opens doors to security-focused network positions.
Cisco CCNA
The industry-standard networking certification. CCNA will deepen my understanding of Cisco technologies, which dominate enterprise networking environments.
Skills Covered
- Cisco IOS and network configuration
- Routing and switching fundamentals
- Network automation basics
- Enterprise network architecture
Advanced Specialization
Based on where my career takes me, I'll pursue specialized certifications in areas like cloud networking (AWS/Azure), advanced security, or network automation.
Target Roles
These are the positions I'm working toward in Massachusetts. Each certification brings me closer to qualifying for these roles.
NOC Technician
Monitor network performance, respond to alerts, troubleshoot issues, and escalate problems. The front line of network operations.
Network Support Technician
Provide hands-on support for network infrastructure, configure devices, and assist with network deployments and maintenance.
IT Infrastructure Support
Broader role supporting servers, networks, and systems. Combines networking with general IT support responsibilities.
